Limestone, fresh color is an almost neutral grayish-tan; rock shatters when hit to present a powdery-looking surface; hard with a semi-conchoidal break in most places; layers average about 4 to 5 inches thick; sparsely scattered nodules of chert, light gray to whitish in color; has fairly good jointing and occasional patches of maroon-brown coatings along joint planes; several siliceous geodes
