Move to another county

Section though Plattsburg and Vilas to Stanton. Section starts at railroad tracks where small ravine crosses it and proceeds east and then north up hill to quarry.
Measured By H.C. Wagner, 5/4/1952
Unit No. Description Thickness
10 Limestone - basal 5 in. contains many Osagia algae and is medium crystalline and yellowish gray (5Y8/1) to grayish orange pink. It is overlain by yellowish gray(5Y8/1) fine crystalline, hard limestone that is seamed with irregularly bedded layers but the upper part weathers to the pitted vuggy irregular surface that is characterisic of the Capt. Cr. Limestone 8 ft.
9 Shale - thin, calcareous, variable inthickness 0.1 ft.
8 Limestone - ahs the appearance of a fine oolite, but theses may be osagia algae. They make up the entire rock for 1.5 ft. The base is very irregular and this bed varies in thickness from 1 to 2 ft. Has Clayey Osagia? zone at base locally 1.5 ft.
7 Shale - medium gray (N5) fossiliferous, contains many limestone nodules and concretions in upper foot, the upper 0.5 ft. constituting a clayey limestone 3 ft.
6 Limestone - very fine crystalline, hard, brittle, but apparently is very clayey, medium gray (N5) 100 ft.
5 Shale - olive gray (5Y4/1) contains many lenses and beds of ironstone concretions in basal portion, poorly exposed but general content remains the same until the upper 0.3 ft. which is medium gray (N5) 100 ft.
4 Limestone - very fossiliferous and oolitic. Oolites about 2 mm in diameter. Variable in color but generally brownish gray (5YR4/1) Oolites commonly filled with limonite locally. Many crinoid stems and high brachiopods(?) Upper 6 - 8 in. is full of Myalina? and fenestellate bryozoans and weathers more readily than does the lower massive part of the upper bed 3 ft.
3 Shale - fossiliferous, the fossils consisting of many crinoid fragments representing many different types of stems many Girtyocoelia bodies, and many irregular coral forms, color medium light gray (N6) 5.5 ft.
2 Limestone - quite variable in lithology and fossil content both vertically and laterally. The lower foot is light brownish gray, (5YR6/1) medium crystalline limestone that is studded with 1/2 in. brachiopods many of whos shells are now geodes (lined with small cystals). The next 0.4 ft. consists of a medium gray (N5) medium crystalline limestone which is either relatively unfossiliferous or consists almost completely of crinoid fragments. 3 ft. of brownish gray (5YR4/1) medium grained, very fossiliferous (many crinoid heads, stems and arms, and fenestellate bryozoans.) A mottled yellowish gray (5Y7/2) and grayish orange (10YR7/4) makes up the rest of the bed. It contains a zone of the same type of 1/2 in. brachiopods at the bottom but upward has many larger brachiopods with flat shells and ribs 5 ft.
1 Shale interval - very poorly exposed but apparently consists mainly of light olive gray (5Y%/2) shale with one or two 1 in. lenses of calcareous ironstone concretions about 4 ft. below top 23 ft.
