Limestone - fresh color in the lower part is a medium to dark gray while the upper part is a lighter gray; lower part is medium-grained in places with many fusilinids and fragments of fossils; has thin horizontal "strings" of carbonaceous material running through it; upper part is hard with a porcellaneous apperance; shatters when struck; overall bedding is thin to medium and wavy; beds usually have a thin bed of carbonaceous partings between them
