Abandoned strip pit

Note: Bigger coal mined in this pit. Also note slumped sandstone from above. aparently coarser bedded sd above Fleming in this area.
Unit No. Description Thickness
1 Clay ironstone layer. Contains Marginifera and Ambocoelia. Weathers to shelly limonite 3 - 4 in.
2 Shale, dark gray to black. Weathers light gray. 2 ft.
3 Limestone, hard, medium gray, weathers to brown and hematite red. Varies in thickness laterally. Upper 3 inches is Marginifera coquina. Crinoid stems only other abundant fossil. Formed into large blocks by jointing 3 ft.
4 Clay and shale 1 ft.
5 Shale, gray. 7 ft.
6 Shale, black, platy. Contains large isolated rounded septarian clay ironstone concretions 2 - 4 ft.
