Kansas Wireline Header Database--Wells with Wireline Logs

Directions: The link below contains the data you requested in a comma-delimited, ASCII file that should be readable by normal spreadsheet or database software. Files are deleted after 24 hours. Clicking on the link only opens a text file. Instead,

Right Click the link and select "Save Link As" or "Save Link to Disk" from the pop-up menu.
Save the file to your computer, keeping the extension as .txt
Open Excel or your Database
Select "Open File" and navigate to where you saved your file. Note - in Excel, to find your text (.txt) file, look to the right of the File-Name box for File-Type. Change the type from "All Excel Files" to "All" or "Text." Then you can select and open your file.
Using the Text Import Wizard:

choose "Delimited", then click on "Next."
choose by "Comma" - you’ll see the example data adjusted to columns, then click on "Next."
only if your data includes 2 separate columns for "Lease" & "Well,"" navigate to the "Well" column and change the format to Text; otherwise skip step 3.

Click on "Finish", and your file will open

Please Note--The file format is designed to make the data easier to manipulate in Excel. For files of wells and tops that are more suited to GIS and mapping use, please use the Master List of Oil and Gas Wells.

Note: This format has changed slightly as of Feb. 9, 2011. Township, range, section values are now in separate columns for ease of sorting.

KGS_ID	Unique ID for the well assigned by the Survey. Not necessarily permanent.
API	API number assigned by the Kansas Corp. Commission, or from historical records.
Location	Township, range, section, and quarter calls for the well.
Operator	Operator of the well at drilling completion. Not usually updated except at workover.
Log_Operator	Operator of the well as listed on the log itself.
Lease	Lease name and Well number.
Elevation	The elevation the well, in feet. KB is Kelly bushing, DF is derrick floor, GL is ground level, TOPO is estimate based on digital model.
Latitude	NAD 1927, generated from the legal location.
Longitude	Some new wells have GPS longitude and latitude.
Logger	Name of the company that created the well log.
Tool	Name of the logging tool.
Top	Feet below the surface of the top of the log. Note small zones such as an evaporite layer may be plotted on the log but not shown here.
Bottom	Feet below the surface of the deepest part of the log.
Temp	Temperature at the bottom of the hole.
KS_Sample_Log	ID code if the log is marked with a Kansas Sample Log number.
Scanned	Indication if the Survey has scanned the log or not.
Log_Date	Date when the log was measured.
