Please Note--The file format is designed to make the data easier to manipulate in Excel. For files of wells and tops that are more suited to GIS and mapping use, please use the Master List of Oil and Gas Wells.
Note: This format has changed slightly as of Feb. 9, 2011. Township, range, section values are now in separate columns for ease of sorting.
Below is a description of the columns saved.
KGS_ID | Unique ID for the well assigned by the Survey. Not necessarily permanent. |
API | API number assigned by the Kansas Corp. Commission, or from historical records. |
Location | Township, range, section, and quarter calls for the well. |
Operator | Operator of the well at drilling completion. Not usually updated except at workover. |
Log_Operator | Operator of the well as listed on the log itself. |
Lease | Lease name and Well number. |
Elevation | The elevation the well, in feet. KB is Kelly bushing, DF is derrick floor, GL is ground level, TOPO is estimate based on digital model. |
Latitude | NAD 1927, generated from the legal location. |
Longitude | Some new wells have GPS longitude and latitude. |
Logger | Name of the company that created the well log. |
Tool | Name of the logging tool. |
Top | Feet below the surface of the top of the log. Note small zones such as an evaporite layer may be plotted on the log but not shown here. |
Bottom | Feet below the surface of the deepest part of the log. |
Temp | Temperature at the bottom of the hole. |
KS_Sample_Log | ID code if the log is marked with a Kansas Sample Log number. |
Scanned | Indication if the Survey has scanned the log or not. |
Log_Date | Date when the log was measured. |
