General Field Information | |
Exploration Method: | Seismic mapping by Superior Oil Company |
---|---|
Drilling Casing Practices: | Normal completion practice involves setting pipe through the Keyes reservoir, perforating the porous interval above water level and subsequently treating the formation with acid before fracturing. Normal procedure is to set surface casing in the Cimarron anhydrite (Permian), which is encountered at about 1500 feet. |
Discussion: | Prior to November 1958, it cost $65,000 to complete a gas well in the Keyes sandstone. |

Trap Type: | Entrapment of gas in the Keyes sandstone reservoir is structurally controlled. Sparks field is a southeastward-trending anticline with approximately 150 feet of structural closure on the Keyes horizon. The field is on the west flank of the Dodge City basin about 30 miles northward from Keyes Dome. Regional dip on lower Pennsylvanian sediments and Mississippian sediments is northeastward at about 35 feet per mile. Keyes sandstone is developed in the basal Morrow and is present in the vicinity of Sparks field except east and northeastward, where the sandstone thins rapidly. |
