Short description: Marine fossils in limestone in Schermerhorn Park. The limestone developed from sediment deposited in a shallow sea during the Mississippian Subperiod about 320 million years ago. The rock, classified as Keokuk Limestone, is in Schermerhorn Park across the road from Shoal Creek.
