Short description: Battle Canyon tributary at Lake Scott State Park in Scott County. The 100-acre lake is surrounded by canyons, natural springs, and steep bluffs of the Ogallala Formation. Battle Canyon is the site of the 1878 Battle of Punished Woman’s Fork—the last engagement of the Plains Indian Wars in Kansas—between the U.S. Army and Northern Cheyenne. The battle site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
