Short description: Limestone ranch house built into a hillside on the Spring Hill Farm and Stock Ranch, now part of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. The ranch house, built in 1881, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and Spring Hill Ranch became a National Historic Landmark in 1997. The 11,000-acre preserve in the Flint Hills, established in 1996, represents a portion of the 170,000 acres of tallgrass prairie that once covered the central United States
