Short description: Carey Salt Plant at Hutchinson in Reno County. The thickest and most extensive salt layer in Kansas is known as the Hutchinson Salt Member. On average 250 feet thick and found 500 to 1,000 feet deep under ground, it underlies 37,000 square miles of central Kansas.
