Short description: Buildex Inc. lightweight shale aggregate plant in Ottawa. The first Buildex plant, it began production in 1950. Buildex, Inc. produces expanded shale lightweight aggregate——a lightweight ceramic material produced by expanding and vitrifying shale in a rotary kiln. It used in the production masonry, concrete, and asphalt chip seals.
