Short description: Aerial view of the abandoned Soule Canal, also known as Soule's Folly, and Santa Fe Trail ruts in Ford County. The canal, constructed in the 1880s, never fulfilled its promise to distribute water throughout southwest Kansas. Two sections of the Santa Fe Trail ruts in Ford County are listed on the National Register of Historic Places—the Santa Fe Trail Remains segment since 1966 and the Santa Fe Trail Ford County Segment 2 (Fowler's Ruts) since 2013.
