Short description: Alluvium layers exposed when a side-channel chute was built along the Missouri River near Atchison to restore the river's habitat diversity. Alluvium is unconsolidated clay, silt, sand, and gravel deposited by running water relatively recently in geologic time. The alluvium pictured here was likely deposited within the last 300 years during flooding.
