Short description: Just west the U.S. highways 59 and 56 intersection, the Ireland Sandstone
crops out along Tauy Creek and includes a landmark called Hole in the Rock. The crossbedded sandstone is the remains of sand deposited in a Pennsylvanian river channel about 300 million years ago. U.S. 56 is the general route of the Santa Fe Trail in the area.
